"The Supreme Court sided with the U.S. government in a dispute over the statute of limitations for prosecuting military rape, the first case of its kind the justices faced in the MeToo era.

In a unanimous opinion for an eight-member court, Justice Samuel Alito wrote Thursday that the three rape prosecutions at issue were timely. The case was argued before Justice Amy Coney Barrett joined the court and she did not participate in the decision.

“Today’s opinion was a huge win for military rape survivors,” said Col. Don Christensen (ret.), president of Protect our Defenders, a group which assists military sexual assault survivors and filed an amicus brief supporting the government. “Justice has been restored for three survivors and hope has been restored for countless others,” he said."
