Australia’s New Law May Scrap Deals With China

Dec.08 — Prime Minister Scott Morrison earned new powers to veto or scrap agreements that state governments reach with foreign powers under laws that could stymie China’s Belt and Road Initiative in Australia. Meanwhile, as the bilateral relations descend into a morass of sanctions and mutual recriminations, Beijing is delivering a huge cash windfall to Canberra and Australia’s economy through its insatiable demand for iron ore.
