Suu Kyi’s Huge Popularity Poses Threat to Myanmar’s Generals

Feb.02 — Myanmar’s coup leader says a “fair and free” election will be held after the state of emergency is over in a year’s time. The military says its takeover was justified because of what it says was widespread fraud in the recent election that saw Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy win in a landslide victory.
